False Promise – A Sad Love Story

Ravi and Lata had been married for six years but still had no children. One day, when Ravi went to the doctor for a checkup, he was reminded of a promise from his past – a promise that had never been true.

That morning, like almost every day, the same discussion started at home.

Ravi: “I’ve said many times, we shouldn’t talk about this now.”
Lata: “Not talk? This isn’t a small matter. What are you hiding from me?”
Ravi: “Stop trying to provoke me. I’ll do what you want, just to prove something to myself.”
Lata: “Don’t you want it? Even if you don’t, I do. We’ve been married six years. If not now, then when?”
Ravi: “We can wait a little longer.”
Lata: “It’s better to be careful now than regret later.”

Ravi and Lata had a love marriage after dating for three years. At first, they didn’t want children, but now Lata felt it was time to consult a doctor. After some discussion, Ravi agreed.

Lata: “I booked an appointment with a new doctor at a big hospital. Her name is Swati. You’ll come with me, right?”
Ravi nodded.

On the appointment day, they waited for three hours. When Dr. Swati arrived, she carried a file and greeted them politely. While reviewing the notes, her expression suddenly changed as she glanced at Ravi. Ravi felt uneasy – memories from their school days flashed back.

Ravi remembered fighting with a classmate in 9th grade. Swati had intervened, calming the situation, and they became close friends. Over time, their bond deepened, though life eventually separated them.

Now, seeing her again after so many years, Ravi’s mind wandered. Lata gently brought him back.

Lata: “Where were you lost? Dinner is ready. I’ve been calling you.”

Ravi realized that although he had Lata, Swati still held a special place in his heart. After the appointment, Ravi tried to meet Swati again, but the hospital staff didn’t allow him inside without an appointment. He left, feeling a mix of nostalgia and longing.

Swati had to leave the city for her medical exams, and Ravi’s family stayed behind for their own reasons. Both were at a stage in life where love could change everything.

Swati: “You know my dream, Ravi. I want to become a doctor. But today, I want a promise from you.”
Ravi: “A promise?”
Swati: “We’ve always cared for each other. I don’t want our love to hurt our future or families. I promise to stay true to you. Will you do the same?”
Ravi: “Everything you said, I agree. I promise. And… I love you too.”

They hugged, tears in Swati’s eyes. She warned him jokingly: if he ever met someone prettier than her, she’d be upset. Ravi was so lost in the moment that he didn’t notice her call later. Swati invited him to a café, where they met again.

Ravi: “How are you?”
Swati: “I’m still the same. I stick to what I say.”
Ravi: “I…”
Swati: “No need to explain. I knew what to do. You’ve made me strong with your love. I became a doctor, but our paths now must stay separate. Just be happy and don’t ruin your present.”
Ravi: “You always seem to understand everything before I even speak.”
Swati: “Next time, make an appointment if you want to meet me. I won’t meet without it.”

Ravi let her leave, knowing she wouldn’t stop anymore.
