MLB fans are deeply saddened by the passing of former White Sox pitcher Bobby Jenks, who died at age 44 after a battle with stomach cancer (adenocarcinoma). The Chicago White Sox confirmed the news and released a moving tribute video.
Jenks, a 2005 World Series hero, was known for his dominance as a closer. He was originally drafted by the Angels but made his mark with the White Sox after joining them in 2005. That same year, he played a key role in the team’s championship run, closing out the final game against the Astros.
He went on to become an All-Star in 2006 and 2007 and earned a place in MLB history by retiring 41 consecutive batters in 2007 — setting a record at the time.
Bobby Jenks Career Highlights
Jenks’s career was unfortunately cut short due to back injuries. After a failed surgery in 2011, he retired from baseball at just 31. In recent years, he stayed involved in the sport as a coach and manager in independent leagues, inspiring many young athletes.
Sadly, Jenks announced his cancer diagnosis in early 2025 and stepped away from coaching. His courage and determination were admired by teammates and fans alike.
